COLLECTION AND PREPARATION OF CHILLED INSEMINATION DOSES

The advantage of using a chilled semen is the cheaper price of the whole process than when using frozen semen, and thanks to the longer shelf life of sperm in the reproductive tract of bitch, as well as a higher successful pregnancy rate. The disadvantage is the risk of semen damage along the way, for example, due a transport delay, and the fact that if the fresh semen is found to be of poor quality or cannot be collected at all, you have little time left to arrange another dog.

Most transport boxes for cooled semen will maintain the required temperature of 5 to 10 °C (at which the semen must be kept for a maximum of 40 h until insemination) (depending also on the ambient temperature). If the outside temperature is high, the endurance is shortened; on the contrary, if it is freezing outside, there is a risk of freezing and thus destroying the seed. For this reason, you must ensure delivery ideally within the next day of dispatch. Transport companies do not deliver at the weekend, so please note that the seed must only be sent (and therefore the dog collected) between Monday and Thursday.

Since from the chilled seed it is ideal to inseminate max. by the 5th day after its collection, everything needs to be thoroughly timed.

Semen is collected by masturbation method, i.e. painless and for the dog in a comfortable way. The presence of a bitch in heat is an advantage, this stimulation of the dog will increase the chance of successful collection and gain as many sperm as possible in the ejaculate. If you do not have the opportunity to provide a bitch in heat, bring with you at least a non-teaser bitch. Walk your dog just before visiting us.

Please send us the address of the recipient (foreign veterinarian) and the name of the bitch owner in advance. By e-mail, send also scan of the dog´s pedigree and pages with valid anti-rabies and leptospira vaccinations and dog identification from dog´s passport.

Please make an appointment by phone. Before that, however, create a user account with us (register) and fill in the entry form, where you enter the details of yourself and your dog. There is no need to fill in the form if the dog has already been collected from us in the past.
